They are followed
closely by Killaloe slates, whose beautiful Grey/Green colour and
distinctive grit banding, means they are always in demand.
Valentia slate is also popular, similar in colour to Blue Bangors
but with a rougher surface and chunky appearance.
Dinorwic (Welsh)
slate is noted for its acid resistance, indeed we find some
Dinorwic slates as good as new after 100 years.
Ahinney( Carrick-on
Suir) are a black slate found in the Waterford / Kilkenny region.
Convoy (Donegal)
black slates were popular in Dublin, in small sizes, with a spattering
of yellow.
Westmoreland
Greens (Christchurch Cathedral) and Blue/greys were used mainly
in Dublin.
French, German,
Belgian and American slates are also found in Salvage not forgetting
Spanish which is a relatively recent arrival.
If you are planning
a re-roof or extension please send us a small piece of slate and
we will identify it for you.
